The Joyflow Salt Sanctuary

The Joyflow Salt Sanctuary offers a calm, comfortable space where you can find respite and simply breathe, allowing the benefits of salt therapy to work naturally. Microscopic particles of pure salt are dispersed into the air, helping to cleanse the respiratory system, support skin health, and promote an overall sense of ease. Whether you’re here for wellness maintenance, to soothe specific concerns, or just to enjoy a quiet moment away from the noise of daily life, each visit is an invitation to breathe more deeply and feel more renewed.
A variety of salt therapy sessions are offered daily. Joyflow memberships and class packs can be used for salt sessions. Options to purchase drop-in sessions and unlimited salt passes are available too.
-
How does salt therapy work?During a salt therapy session, finely ground pharmaceutical-grade salt is dispersed into the air by a halogenerator. As you relax and breathe it in, the microscopic salt particles travel deep into your respiratory system, helping to cleanse the airways, reduce inflammation, and loosen mucus. The salt also has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which can benefit both your respiratory system and skin. All you have to do is sit back, breathe, and let the salt do the work.
-
What is a halogenerator?A halogenerator is a machine used in salt therapy rooms to grind pure, pharmaceutical-grade salt into microscopic particles and disperse them into the air. It works by crushing and milling the salt, then blowing it into the salt room so you can inhale it and allow it to land on your skin. This process is what gives salt therapy its therapeutic benefits for the respiratory system and skin. Without a halogenerator, the room may still feel relaxing but won’t deliver the same measurable salt therapy effects. In the Joyflow Salt Sanctuary, the halogenerator is the small white machine on the far left wall of the room. You may hear the machine make an intermittent humming noise throughout your session.
-
Can salt therapy help with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory issues? Many guests find relief from symptoms related to allergies, asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory concerns after salt therapy. The fine salt particles in the air can help reduce inflammation, loosen mucus, and make breathing feel easier. While it’s not a substitute for medical treatment, it can be a great complement to your wellness routine.
-
Can salt therapy help with skin conditions?Yes, salt therapy can be beneficial for certain skin concerns like eczema, psoriasis, and acne. The salt in the air can help reduce inflammation, balance pH, and support the skin’s natural healing process. Results can vary, so regular sessions may be helpful for lasting improvement.
-
How often do I need to receive salt therapy to experience its benefits? The benefits of salt therapy can often be felt after just one session, but consistency can enhance the results. Many people choose to come a few times a week or a few times a month, while others visit more often during allergy, cold, or flu season. How often you come depends on your personal wellness goals and needs.
-
Is salt therapy safe for pregnant women?Salt therapy is considered safe for women during all stages of pregnancy. Since every pregnancy is unique, we recommend checking with your doctor if you have any specific concerns. In general, spending time in the salt room is much like enjoying the naturally salty air you might breathe while relaxing by the ocean.
-
Is salt therapy safe if I have high blood pressure?Yes, salt therapy is safe for people with high blood pressure because the salt is inhaled, not ingested. It doesn’t raise your sodium levels in the body the way eating salty food might. If you have any concerns, it’s always a good idea to check with your healthcare provider first.
-
Where is the Joyflow Salt Sanctuary located? The Joyflow Salt Sanctuary is tucked away on the lower level of the Joyflow building. As you enter our front door, you'll walk downstairs and be greeted by a dark and cosy atmosphere lighted by glowing pink Himalayan salt walls. Joyflow staff will guide you to the room and orient you to the space.
-
What should I wear to a salt therapy session?Casual, comfortable clothing is encouraged for your salt session. You will be laying down on mat with comfy items to help you rest and relax. Think leggings and a long-sleeve shirt, sweatpants and a sweatshirt or tank top. Shoes are not permitted in the room, so you are welcome to wear socks or go barefoot. The temperature of the Salt Sanctuary tends to run on the chilly side, so you are encouraged to bring an extra layer and a pair of socks in case you feel cold. Joyflow will have extra blankets for you just in case!
-
Will I get salt on my skin or clothes? The salt particles in the air are super fine, so you won’t see or feel a layer of salt on your skin or clothing. Most people leave feeling refreshed, with no need to change or rinse off after a session.
-
Will I taste the salt in the air? Some people notice a slight salty taste on their lips or in their mouth during or after a session, while others don’t taste it at all. Either way, it’s completely normal and just part of the natural experience.
-
What sounds will I hear during my session? The salt room is designed to be a peaceful, calming space. You may hear gentle background music, the intermittent hum of the halogenerator (the machine that disperses salt into the air), or the soothing sounds of the crystal singing bowls during a salt and sound session. If you’re visiting during a group session, you might also hear the quiet sounds of others settling in, breathing deeply, or the light snore of someone who needed a deeper rest during their session.
-
Are beverages or food allowed in the Salt Sanctuary?Food is not allowed. Water in a contained water bottle is allowed and encouraged. Sometimes people will notice they get a slight cough or tickle in their throat from the salt. You are welcome to keep the water bottle next to you and use as needed throughout the session.
-
Are children allowed in the Salt Santuary?Yes, children are welcome in the Salt Sanctuary with adult supervision. We just ask that they are able to remain calm and respectful during the session so everyone can enjoy the peaceful environment. Salt therapy can be beneficial for kids too, especially for respiratory support.
-
Is it dark inside the Salt Sanctuary? The room is softly lit to create a calming atmosphere. While it isn’t completely dark, the lighting is gentle and relaxing, helping you unwind without feeling closed in.
-
Is there sound or music inside the Salt Sanctuary? It depends on the type of class you book. If you book a Dry Salt or CBD Salt Therapy session, there will be gentle meditation-style music playing softly in the background. For our Salt and Sound classes, the class will start with a guided meditation to allow your body and mind to sink into a deeper, relaxed state. The session will be followed by a sound bath and include the sounds of crystal singing bowls and other gentle instruments.
-
Will there be a Joyflow staff member in the room during my salt session? It depends on the type of class you book. If you book a Dry Salt or CBD Salt Therapy session, a staff member will welcome you at the front door, guide you to the room, and ensure you are settled with everything you need before they start the salt machine and allow you to rest either alone or with others who have signed up for the session. If you book a Salt and Sound class, a staff member will be present the full length of the class to guide you through a meditation and sound therapy session.
-
How long is a salt therapy session? All salt therapy sessions are 45 minutes in duration.
-
How many people can fit inside the Salt Sanctuary? The Salt Sanctuary can hold a maximum of six people per session. The space per person is a little larger than a standard yoga mat. If you prefer extra space around you, please reach out to us directly to reserve two spaces for your comfort. We are happy to provide this at no extra charge. We ask you do this as you book so that we can ensure the space is available.
-
Do you accept walk-ins?Since space in the Salt Santuary is limited, we recommend reserving your spot ahead of time. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available, but please note we can’t open the room once a session begins. If you arrive after the start time, we’ll be happy to get you into the next available session.
-
Can I use my phone or electronic devices inside the salt room?We ask that phones and other electronics be left outside the salt room or silenced and tucked away. This keeps the space peaceful for everyone and also protects your devices from potential salt exposure.
